Report :
On Saturday, September 10th, the animal rights organisation "Bite Back - Think before you eat. Save Lives, Stop Cruelty" set up an information stand for the first time in Ostend city center, and it was very successful. Activists also had a leafleting event as part of our awareness campaign. We had our large photo boards, lots of information, a video screen with non-stop images of cattle industry and we offered vegan snacks to the public.

Two presentations/debates were organized on the same day. The first took place on Place Marulaz, during a restaurant open house (a collectively-organized vegan restaurant open to everyone and set in the public plaza), but was poorly organized. It attempted to continue in a nearby and independently-managed venue. Several people who were interested in knowing more attended the presentation. The second took place in the evening in the same place. It addressed the political lines between anarchism and anti-speciesism and therefore tackled the question of the demand for the abolishment of meat. Polemical debate ensued. Lots of interested people. Everyone seemed to agree to disagree in the end.

Each evening for two days, we held a meal in the village communal room, preceded by a presentation about "the animal question" and its politicization, speciesism, veggie-phobia, and the demand for the abolition of meat. In total, over fifteen people attended, and were quite interested. The majority of attendees were either vegetarian or people who only rarely eat meat, apart from one or two people who were defending the consumption of meat. The village livestock farmers did not come. The discussion took place during the meal and continued until late.

Animal Dignity Animal Dignity organized a street performance event at 3pm on Saturday, September 24th. The show revolved around a false crime scene: a forensic scientist inspected the fake corpse of a calf. The public's attention was called upon and passers-by received leaflets in order to identify the author of the murder: it is a very difficult task. Indeed the slaughterhouse employees, the butcher, and the simple consumer have all participated directly or not in the slaughter of the victim. In the face of this complex problem, there is only one solution: the justice system must prohibit the consumption and sale of meat! It was a successful event!

On the 24th of September, in the centre of Orléans, on the Place du Martroi, information stands were set up for the abolition of meat: - pamphlets were distributed and informative and diverse brochures were made available; there was also a petition to sign and a plate of meat substitutes (in order to prove again, if it was necessary, that another food is possible) and activists held signs and moving posters that brought about reflections …. a much more favourable welcome than was expected from the passers-by and a few informal discussions took place with those resistant to change (one a breeder of pigs from Brittany). A very positive outcome for an action like this held with confidence by a team of six convincing activists. Another event will take place soon because Orléans still has a number of potential vegans and vegetarians.

On Friday September the 30th, as part of the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, Droit des Animaux (Animal Rights) and nea had information booths and organised an human meat package demonstration at the Place de la République in Rennes. At 1:30pm we put in place our classic human meat package demonstration. The exchanges were diverse and varied: “And what about the children? Have you thought of the impact that is going to be provoked by a sight such as this production?” (Translation: “Well, they are going to become vegan or vegetarian!”). “Who do you think you are asking for the abolition of meat? Animals are here to be eaten, period. And as Freud said, they are not of reflective thought. We are really superior and intelligent!” We will spare you the remarks shouted but said from a distance regarding the benefits of steak. But there were also positive and constructive exchanges. Several people who were concerned by the human meat package demonstration afterwards stopped at the information booths where the activists responded to their questions.

Information stand and leafleting. Go Vegan with Bob Linden (www.GoVeganRadio.com), served as emcee for the annual World Veg Festival (www.sfvs.org/wvd/) in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. On October 2, I delivered a talk at the festival entitled "Vegan Animal Liberation Activism and the Campaign to Abolish Meat vs. Furniture For Chickens in 18 years", encouraging vegans to promote both veganism and abolition vs. involvement in misleading campaigns that accomplish nothing other than giving the public rationalizations to continue consumption of animals and animal products, such as the latest offering from the Humane Society of the United States promising perches for imprisoned hens in two decades. The talk will be available within a few weeks, with information about it to be posted at www.GoVeganRadio.com. I have also received a favorable response from San Francisco City Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi to consider introduction of legislation to ban meat in San Francisco, based on a compelling argument for it. Mirkarimi was successful in initiating a plastic bag ban in San Francisco. My research shows that a vegan citizenry in the San Francisco Bay Area, free of meat and dairy related disease, would save $20 billion in current Bay Area medical costs, and would save the city $2.2 billion. A vegan California would save $101.7 billion annually. A vegan Bay Area would also save 22.3 billion gallons of water, with the city of San Francisco saving 2.5 billion gallons of water annually. I believe that the sale of meat, dairy, fish, and eggs should be banned because they involve torture and murder of non-human animals, death, disease, poverty, and hunger for homo sapiens, and the environmental unsustainability of climate change, deforestation, habitat destruction, soil erosion, desertification, resource depletion, and water pollution.

ACTIONS 01/2011
Closing communiqué for the January 2011 WWAM
Animal exploitation is unjustified and therefore should be abolished. Join us in denouncing this injustice as we "Stand Up For Animals" for a second time during the World Weeks for the Abolition of Meat (at a midtown Toronto location to be disclosed to participants 48 hours before the event). This is a bold but peaceful visit inside a location that sells animal flesh. Placards will be provided, and please note that this action calls for the use of iPads. If you can bring one along, message us for details.
The World Weeks for the Abolition of Meat (WWAMs) are intended as a means of promoting debate about the idea of abolishing the production and consumption of sentient beings. We are making this demand in order to move our culture, ideology and social structures closer toward a just society that will cease to treat and perceive nonhuman animals as commodities and property that can be exploited and consumed.
The primary goal of this particular event is not to urge people to change their individual consumption behavior (i.e. by advocating veganism). Of course, it is important to address people as consumers - but we must also address them as citizens. The anti-slavery activists of the 17th and 18th centuries not only sought a boycott of sugar produced by slaves but also clearly expressed the idea that slavery should be banned. Therefore at this event we will be directly denouncing the commodification, ownership and exploitation of nonhuman animals, and advocating a legal ban on the production and consumption of animal products. This event is organized to spread the idea that meat consumption (and other animal products) is unjustified ethically and should therefore be forbidden.
The World Weeks for the Abolition of Meat are organized every year at the end of the months of January, May and September.
Further details about the meat abolition movement are available at:
http://meat-abolition.org/
For the second time this year, a Worldwide Week for the Abolition of Meat (WWAM) is organized throughout the world from May 21st to May 28th.
Once again it is a time when organizations, action groups and individuals throughout the world will protest against the consumption of the flesh of animals. Breeding, fishing and hunting cause enormous and constant harm to countless sentient beings: they suffer and are killed so as to provide meat!
January 2011 World Week for the Abolition of Meat
On January, 30th we organized a leafleting event in Tokyo for the World Week for the Abolition of Meat.
A group of individuals ran an awareness action handing out flyers to passers-by.
It was interesting to see people's reactions; we found out that people still have a difficult time understanding this issue.
We need to take our time and work step by step.

For the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, we set up another information stall on Sunday, January 30th so as to raise awareness about animal rights and the idea of meat abolition.
On Saturday, January 29th Veg 56 held an information stand about vegetarianism and animal rights at the local social forum in Séné.

We organized two actions on 29 and 30 January for the World Week for the Abolition of Meat.
We held information stalls in order to raise public awareness about animal rights and about the issue of the abolition of meat. On Saturday our event was not very successful as there were very few passers-by around the spot that was granted to us by the city hall.
LausAnimaliste organized events for the World Week for the Abolition of Meat.
On Saturday 29 January, an information stall was held all day. A lot of people came by as they were attracted by the large "meat abolition " banners and interested in discussing the isue. Most of them were aware of the issue of meat through the release of the translation of Safran Foer's book, which received a lot of coverage in the French-speaking media.
The group Vegan Città di Latina organized events in Latina (Italy) both on January 29th and on January 30th for the World Week for the Abolition of Meat.
For the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, we set up events in Latina (Italy) both on January 29th and on January 30th.
Activists from Vegan Città di Latina held an information stand along with a photo exhibition on the main square of the city.
20 activists at least were expected for an action in Montpellier (France) for the World Day for the Abolition of Meat on Saturday, January 29th.
Because of rainy weather, we had to reschedule our demonstration to Thursday, February 3rd; still, a dozen of activists showed up for the event.
The artist Lauren made chalk drawings on the ground of the sihouettes of a sow and her piglets sprinkled with drops of blood. In order to symbolize murders and funerals, we surrounded the animals' silhouette drawings with a red rope (as for a crime scene), lit candles and roses.
For the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, Animalsace went to meet passers-by in Strasbourg (France) so as to spread the idea of the demand for the abolition of meat.
We gave out leaflets with a copy of the manifesto for the abolition of meat on one side and a vegan recipe on the other.
Two activists held a large "meat=murder" banner which attracted people's attention.
Manifesto:
We took part in the World Week for the Abolition of Meat by organizing an event on January 29 in Strasbourg (France).
We held an information stand and handed out leaflets with a presentation of the demand for the abolition of meat on the front and a vegan recipe on the back so as to show how to put this beautiful idea into practice.
We held an event in La Paz, Bolivia for the World Week for the Abolition of Meat.
We organized a distribution of Free Vegan and Vegetarian Recipes -- one for each day of the Week.
On Sunday, January 24th we sent out 8 recipes to members of our mailing list and then handed out a different recipe for each day of the week to customers that ate at our vegetarian restaurant.
Everyone was very appreciative and many encouraged us to publish a cookbook which we hope to do by September.
We are hoping to organize other events for the WWAM in May.
Awareness Drive for the Abolition of Meat at Nagarjuna High School and Navodaya High School
Jeedimetla, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy District, Andhra Pradesh, India
Sahayog Organisation, Karuna International, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India
An Awareness programme was organized at Nagarjuna High School and Navodaya High School on January, 29th 2011 for the World Day for the Abolition of Meat.
"Naked and Wrapped in Cellophane, PETA Members Show Louisville That We're All Made of Flesh"
We had a demonstration against Meat Production and Consumption in front of a vegetarian restaurant in Kobe, Japan (near Osaka).
It was held by the following groups: Against Meat Japan, Respect All Living Things, and With All Animals.
The activists appealed to people with slogans and held placards which showed the cruelty of slaughterhouses.
(Against Meat Japan first organized a Parade Against Meat in Osaka, Japan in July 2010.)
On January 29th Animal Amnistie and AVF organizations held a joint event for the World Day for the Abolition of Meat.
With Animal Amnistie the public was invited to taste "human meat" which was made of seitan. People could then go to the AVF part of the stand to receive information on vegetarian alternatives.
For the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, we set up an information stand in Adria.
We found out that there was enormous ignorance about what happens inside a factory farm, what a slaughter is like and the damages caused to animals by meat production.
That's why we're planning to show slides, pictures or small films in the upcoming actions...
We're not letting ourselves get discouraged too much.
On the World Day for the Abolition of Meat, VegLorraine and AVF (Association Végétarienne de France) (France Vegetarian Organization) put together an event in Nancy.
We held a wake for slain animals.
It was accompanied by a leafleting event.
Journalists from L'Est Républicain and La Semaine came to cover the event. Some passers-by were interested by the action while others appeared to be rather indifferent.
The event which lasted for two hours was ended due to cold weather.
"Factory farm performance" in Rovigo.
We distributed dozens of leaflets, but there were always too few.
Unfortunately we didn't get the response we expected from the public as people were joking and laughing at us.
Ignorance about what happens inside a factory farm and what a slaughter is like was enormous. People were also unaware of the damages caused to animals by the meat production.
That's why we're planning to show slides, pictures or small films in the upcoming actions...
We're not letting ourselves get discouraged too much.
A vegan meal was organized by the vegan group of the Basque Country in Bayonne.
25 people shared a vegan lunch in a small and cosy café; which was a pleasant surprise for our very first event.
Some people were interested in the documentation about animal exploitation.
